The iPad now has its first truly next-gen text editor: Daedalus Touch is live on the App Store.

May 31st, 2011

This post is a celebration. After roughly one year of planning, conceptualizing, developing, cursing, swearing, testing, going back to the drawing board and starting all over again — we have finally released Daedalus Touch on the App Store.

It’s currently available at the introductory price of $3.99, and if you haven’t done so already, go check out its website, its app store page, and maybe even its now-famous waltz.

Then go get it already and enjoy some work in what’s Charlie Sorrel calls the first »iPad-expoiting« text editor on the App Store.

As for us, we’re pretty exhausted right now (though in a happy, surreal way), and we’re taking a couple of days off. I’m in Denmark for some holidays, and Max will be at WWDC next week, learning about the future of our industry. If you happen to run into him, give him a hug.

Speaking of hugs: We’d like to thank everybody involved in this project for their time, support and understanding, especially our families during the last weeks of sheer crazy mad developer irrationality. We love you.

We’d also like to thank our beta testers for their feedback, suggestions and thorough bug reports. Thumbs up, we couldn’t have made it on our own.

Lastly, we’d like to thank Apple’s App Store review team for these insanely quick reviews.

Have fun, everybody.

New Introduction Screencast

August 17th, 2010

Hey everyone,

in addition to our new Teaser, we also completely re-recorded the introductory screencast for Ulysses. Instead of using Ulysses 1.6, Ulysses 2 was used this time. We also added two short sections on Semantic Text Editing and Exporting. And all of that in HD!

Happy watching!

Starting Ulysses Mobile Beta

November 10th, 2009

Hey folks,

recently it has been hard to miss that we are developing Ulysses Mobile. There have been some pictures and videos around. This might have wetted your teeth… But now we want you to get your hands on the nearly finished version — as an exclusive beta tester!

So what do you need?

  • An iPhone or an iPod touch with at least OS 3.0
  • Some good use for an semantic text editor on the go
  • A little tolerance to bugs and quirks.
  • Warmheartedness and stuff …

Wanna participate? Just send your application to, and make sure to include some information about the type of device (iPhone/iPod) and the installed system. We have not yet decided how many people will participate, nor do we know when we’ll start exactly, but it might still happen this week :)

Update: Wow, the response was overwhelming! We do now have enough beta testers for Ulysses Mobile. Thank you to everyone who applied!

Have fun,

Ulysses 2.0.1 and new versioning scheme

July 17th, 2009

this is just a quick notifier that we just released Ulysses 2.0.1 into the wild. This is a bug fix version only and resolved some childhood illnesses of both Ulysses applications. It’s available through the internal updater.

New with this update is also our new versioning schema: From now on we will release 0.0.x releases only for bug fixes and minor stuff. All new features that are bigger than “small” will come along 0.x releases. This basically is to signalize the progression of features and not getting stuck in inappropriate numbers :)

Happy updating!
