    It is possible for inline styles like ++emphasis++ to set italic or bold in the fonts and color preferences, but this has no visual effect in the editor. I understand the concept of semantic editing, but:

    - why is ther an italic option
    - an why ist it possible to display underline and strike through, but not italic an bold

    in Ulysses? Some screenshots even show text in italic. Maybe someone can explain it to me.

    It depends on what styles the font supports. For example, Helvetiva seems to support bold italic while Geneva does not – at least on my Mac.

    @dirk: Thanks for the explanation. The default Font doesn`t support italic.

    That's right, several fonts do not support bold or italic... Our default one (Monaco) is one amongst them...
