Does Ulysses 2 have an annotation feature? I often wish to select a proportion of text and annotate it with a note, saying this is what I mean or need to do here later. Is this possible?

What i have done is to make a tag for that.
If its a word, phrase, name or whatever that i need to check out i use that tag.
Just make a new tag, make it italic and add a nice light blue color to it and make youre comment on the stuff you want..
etc../check the consept of tags and start making some to get the text floating/

I'd like something similar - the ability to hit a shortcut key and have it jump me to the next available slot in the Notes window, where I can enter a note, and then toggle back to my position in the text. If I highlight some words, I'd like those words automatically entered in the notes slot. And then have some indicator, like the bookmarks indicator, in both the text and the note window that toggles me between text and note when I'm reviewing.

I take the point about tags, but an inline note interrupts the scan of the writing.

This will be a VERY big change in Ulysses. We have this on our list like forever (okay - or when we first sipped it seven years ago, which feels like forever). There is a lot of conceptual stuff that needs to be worked out for this to work. We will give this a bump on our priority list. But given the complexity (like think of the things you might USE such a link for and implement that as well) I'm sure this is rather a 2.5 or 3.0 feature kinda thing. As we're planning several other things to do with the notes, this might actually become a quite interesting makeover.

Well, what you could do already is to use the shortcuts to navigate between the editor and the notes pad, as well as the shortcut to create a new note.

I realy woudnt like bubbles, flashes and other gui porn in the already polished and clean U interface..Reason i choose U was for its cleanness and no interference design, after all, its for making text and adding meaning to the text and to work uninterupted with it in a organized way..not for powepoint presentations..

Think what would be the best is to have a annotations-notes link that resides in the counting column just like the bookmarks. In-line annotations that require clicks and stuff might not be too optimal. But we'll have to think. Don't expect it for 2.1.

Yes, I hadn't thought of that. That would be better than the footnote system in say Mellel, for that reason.

There seems to be three schools of thought here. First, a new type of booknote that allows you to add comments and notes. Problem - those notes are lost if you delete the text they're tied to.

Second, EB4I's referenced note. Lives in the notes pane, but somehow is tied to a location in the text and marked in the bar (but what if the bar isn't showing?). I suppose any normal note could be turned into a referenced note at any time, and of course visa versa. Maybe even the same note could be tied to more than one location! (Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, Redlers).

Third, inline text that perhaps could be folded up (which I think was what Max was getting at). Problem - still possible to delete accidentally, but not as easy as in 1)

Problem with 1) and 2): what happens if you move the line? Does the note move with it, or stay with the paragragh? Half the line? All the line but one word? (Of course, this problem already exists with Bookmarks, but it's not so important there, since they have no content.)

Well, whatever - I absolutely trust Max and all to find a solution that I initially hate and eventually come to love and realise is brilliant and elegant.
