Soulmen - there is something annoyingly Microsofty about the start-up window in Ulysses, which demands that the user create or open a project if a project isn't already open.

If I don't have a project open in Ulysses, I just want Ulysses to GO AWAY and not clutter up my desktop with a window I can't minimise or otherwise get rid of. Why should Ulysses demand attention when I'm not using it?

I'd also ask that Ulysses enables the user to have multiple projects open at one time. Sometimes--not very often, but sometimes--I need to compare writing side-by-side, and Ulysses dictates that I can't.

    Thanks for listening ...

    Preferences: Startup

This has been requested from time to time (by me too) and apparently it isn't that easy to implement. But I agree, sometimes it would be very helpful.

    Niklas - thanks.

Soulmen - apologies for my gripe over the startup pane. Should have looked a bit harder.

Dictate is rather a harsh word. But you're right - we don't do that (yet). There are to parts to the problem: 1) the was created in version 1.0 to enforce some kind of focus. 2) when I rewrote the whole app for 1.5, I did the bad mistake to not foresee it. Now it has become awfully difficult to change our code for this to work. There just hasn't yet been enough demand and wish from deep inside to actually do it.

Two projects can be switched very fast. Just close the one and set to open the previous project in the prefs. It's not as powerful and fast as switching windows, but works around some of the issues.

Thanks, Max. Yes, "dictate" is a little harsh, but at the time I was feeling dictated to. Despite that, Ulysses still works best for me. It's a marvel of functional minimalism, and I appreciate how much thought has gone into it.
