    I know that Ulysses stripes the formatting of an RTF file when importing, but, is there any trick to import text keeping italics and boldface?

    Unfortunately, no. The Editor (into which the RTF file is imported) is plain-text only, therefore italic and any other kind of text formatting are not allowed.

    A decent word processor will save you, though. Just search/replace, adding Ulysses' in-text styles for italics and bold. I use Nisus which makes this easy.

    We had the plan to write a decent importer for various file formats one day. This would then be able to do exactly what you say. Up to now this didn't happen. But now we have another vote, it seems.

    jb, thank you. I went back to read carefully Nisus Writer Pro, and there is a way to pre-process a document so Italic and Boldface words are replaced with the corresponding markup. Of course, it would be grand if Ulysses supported importing without losing this kind of format.

    Yes. Totally agree. I work with a lot of quotations from religious scriptures. That means that I have to copy and paste into Ulysses. I have a huge problem though.

    Imagine I have to copy and paste this text:
    http://causelessmercy.esotericteaching.org/Bg2.4.htm#69

    The first quote is a sanskrit verse. Then word by word translation. The sanskrit word is in italics and the translation in regular style. When I copy into Ulysses all that is lost.
    The only current way would be to add the tags before importing?

    Unfortunately, it currently is. We had planned a more sophisticated import of rich text for quite a long time. However, we never managed to implement it and there also has always been not too much of a request for it. See your voices as counted. Put's it higher on our list!

    I think there is no need to add a whole import feature on the menu. That would take too long to code.

    I would suggest, a simple thing: maintain bold and italics from clipboard for example.

    but this would not work. Ulysses has nothing like "bold" or "italics". Ulysses has only styles. We always would have to convert stylings into styles. And this does require more setup from the user...

    Hello Max,

    I understandbold. The only thing left I could come up with is the usual: Paste Special, and a set of choices to map bold to an inline style:

    bold ->strong
    italic ->emphasis

    Please consider for the wishlist.
