I'm looking for the indexing fuction on the help guide, but I could find it. does indexing exist? I wonder it isn't.

If your question is about Spotlight indexing, we're currently working on repairing it – drop us an email at if you want to try the latest version with the fix included.

Regarding keeping an index of Persons, Places, Words,… in your books: Ulysses does currently not support indexing directly. If you're using the LaTeX exporter, you might want to have a look at the LaTeX Wikibook for a description on how to use indexing with LaTeX. Maybe some other users could share their workflow?

thank you for you post dirck.
Sorry I meant "table of contents", in italian we say "indice" for table of contents but also the index of person, places, so "indexing" is a "false friend word" to me :)
yes, I know it is possible to do both by using LaTeX, but I don't know it, so If I understand how its indexing function works, I would not able to have full control for other things.
In export to pdf, there is no way to build a table of contents or a index :)
So, I have always to use Word or Pages to do it.

Just bringing up this topic again: Is there a way to get Ulysses to generate a TOC in the PDF or RTF export?

No, don't think so (you can if you take the detour through LaTeX though).

But it sure would be nice to have …

I second the motion. As a new enthousiastic Ulysses user, the missing of index entries is the only problem I encounter.

This would be a major feature for technical or academic writers.

FYI, ePub convention requires a top-level navigation method (i.e., Table of Contents) and Apple will not allow a submission without meeting the requirement as set forth by the IDPF (international group that defines the ePub format).
