    I use a lot of illustrations in my writing - pictures, diagrams etc - and I need to give them captions, numbered consecutively from the beginning of the paper/article/book/chapter (watever is relevant in each case). Also, I need to refer to, say, 'Figure 3' from the text, sometimes in a place far from the actual figure. Is there a way to get the numbers of captions and references to them automatically generated on export?

    The WebExport (currently in Beta, see this Blog post) is able to give illustrations captions. Numbering currently works on a per-Document basis. Referring to illustrations from within the text also works, images can be placed before or after the Document or before/after the whole text. You can also group references etc. at the end of a Document or in an extra file.
