    Hi guys,

have you ever considered making semantic editing available for the notes?

For me, it would make for a more consistent usage if I could use the same styles in the notes I am also using in the main document ...

Since I am sure you have thought about this, I would be interested to know why you decided against it. ;)

    Thanks
    Ben

When we first started, we thought of the Notes being actual notes. In the meantime, 6 years passed and things have changed "a little". Making the Notes plain text and thus allowing styles there as well is on out schedule :)

I may add that this wasn's so much a decision *against* semantic editing in notes, as more a decion pro RTF notes, so users could copy/paste stuff from outside sources without losing information.

    Just to add my 2¢:
I think adding a plain text **option** would be great, but stripping RTF out would be somewhat of a bummer (at least for me). I use notes mainly, well, for notes… quick copy/paste from a PDF or website etc… it would be a hassle to have to always add styles here to keep things organized (like emboldening important ideas or whatever). I also like to keep my notes font really small so that that area can be really narrow. Adding tags here would make things more jumbled IMO, when you use that area just for notes & the occasional footnote.

    Well, yeah, but.

One problem with the current notes setup is that they're pretty much incompatible with the editor. You can't copy and paste stuff from the notes to the editor and keep the format. Headlines etc. will just get lost. You also can't copy marked editor passages to the notes and back, as the markers will get lost in the process.

There's also that ever-present problem of the format menu and all its entries; especially for new users, who always believe they could format text in the editor, and we'd either be stupid or holding back on purpose or whatever...

Having said that, we're talking about the future here, and as such just concepts and ideas, nothing finished. And you can rest assured that we're well aware of our users' need to copy stuff from different sources into their projects. :)

    Good points all :)

In the end, making notes plain text instead of RTF wouldn't affect me very much, and I agree that getting rid of that pesky format menu would be nice.

Also, this puts me completely at ease:

    >And you can rest assured that we're well aware of our users' need to copy stuff from different sources into their projects. :)

I look forward to whatever is to come :)

Do notes not support smart quotes?
