Daedalus touch: initial dropbox sync

    Hi!

    I just initiated a sync with a DropBox folder and Daedalus seems to update each end every file. At least the timestamps are updated. What is Daedalus doing?

    I really depend on sorting my notes by date. I would really hate, Ii Daedalus messes that up.

    This is strange. For me, only the files that were changed are updated. The timestamps are also not updated. Are your timestamps updated on every sync, or did that just happen on the first sync?

    Uh. I never tried to sync _again_. I restored the previous versions from a backup and were done with Daedalus Touch.

    Perhaps I wasn't explicit enough: the DropBox folder already contained some 50 files.
    And the timestamps of these files were updated.

    I just tried it again, with a copy of that folder. And again Daeadalus Touch modified all the timestamps when synching for the first time.

    After that, Daedalus only syncs (and updates) changed and new files and leaves the timestamps alone.

    I then restored the original files again and started a new sync from Daedalus: all files are uploaded again and their timestamps changed :-(

    Daedalus touch updates all timestamps upon import/first sync. This has a number of reasons, one being the encoding (Daedalus sets the encoding of each file to UTF-8 to avoid any encoding-related problems). We'll take a look at whether we can change that behavior so that Daedalus only changes files if there was an actual change in the contents.
    However, once you imported the files, only those sheets which were changed are updated in your Dropbox.

    I understand. Even though I do not like it. But this issue probably does not affect to many users. My bad.

    May I propose the following: please _ask_ the user if he wants to have all his files updated and converted to UTF-8. Or even better: ask him to select the files he wants to have converted.

    If Daedalus Touch would be the only program to edit the files in my DropBox folder I wouldn't mind. But as it is now, my verdict is: "does not play nice with others" (on my Mac I use nvAlt for these files)
