General: Apple Wireless Keyboard & input lag

    Bought an Apple Wireless Keyboard last week and I've been struggling to use it with Daedalus. I write for a half-hour in Daedalus and eventually the lag is so bad that there's about a second delay between keypress and the key displaying on my iPad 2. Switch to Safari to type this and there's zero lag, just as there should be.

    I can't replicate this with the built-in keyboard as I can't type as fast on the screen as I can with a real keyboard.

    Restarted the iPad, forced restart of the app, re-paired keyboard, nothing's worked. Help?

    Hi there, interesting issue you are describing.

    The first and foremost problem for us is that the keyboard input is transparent. As an application it's impossible to tell where keyboard input is coming from. Plus, we are using a system control for managing all of the text input and processing. Even more interesting is that a restart of the app does not help either, so it is not a transient issue.

    That being said, there are a couple of things that might get us further: Does the same lag seem to happen in other sheets or stacks as well? Does the length of a sheet influence it? Does the length of the paragraphs in the text influence speed?

    Lag happens in sheets within the same stack as my primary. I noticed the lag when I was typing in a 32,000 word sheet. Tried to replicate it by opening a new sheet in the stack. I got to word 700 or so when I started to see the lag again. If I type quickly enough, I can input entire sentences without it registering in Daedalus. If I type a shade slower, then the words get picked up.

    Length of paragraphs in text doesn't input lag; happens in short and long paragraphs.

    I really hope we can get this nailed down. I'm writing a new novel and after using the stack/sheet approach it's hard for me to go back other text editors, even using my gorgeous mechanical keyboards on my PC. But having to slow down my typing because the program (or the iPad, who knows) won't register my keystrokes quick enough is a deal-breaker.

    Thanks for getting back! May I ask what kind of iPad you use and what version of the OS is on it? I am having difficulties to reproduce the behavior because I don't have a bluetooth keyboard. I will try to find one and see how I can help :)

    I'm using an iPad 2 with 5.1.1.

    I have to say, despite the issues I'm having a lot more fun writing with Daedalus than with any other text-based editor on my Windows computer. I love the concept of stacks; it reminds me a lot of Scrivener but stripped down to the bare essentials. I really wish there was a version of Daedalus for Windows!

    Hehe, thanks for the kudos! As you may guess, we won't be doing a Windows version of Daedalus anytime soon. We will, however, will have a great companion on the Mac not too long in the future. Just in case you ever considered switching... ;-)

    I am also seeing this issue in the latest version. Very annoying.
    I am using an iPad 2 running iOS 6.0.1

    Tried restarting the app, hard reset of iPad. Maybe I should try reinstalling the app. Any input?

    Just a brief update: I have noticed that this problem occurs specifically with larger txt files. Shorter ones don't seem to have the lag issue.

    Any news on this?

    Thanks for the heads up!

    The good news is although we are still not sure what causes the problem, that we have good reasons to hope that the upcoming Daedalus 1.5 release will fix this issue.

    So keep fingers crossed! :)
