I frequently use virtual emphasis for parts of a text I may not want to use, or move elsewhere, but do not yet want to delete. In the export preferences, I selected "delete text". That works quite well, and I like this option.

But one thing does nit work: if I have a footnote marker virtually emphasized, the footnote marker is *not* deleted from the export, although the footnote text is, resulting in a footnote number in the text and empty footnote at the bottom. I seem to recall that suppression of the footnote markers under virtual emphasis did work in 1.6—as I produced a text that way in which footnotes were not allowed. Is this an accidental change?

Can you give a short example, how you are mark the footnote to delete during export? I can't reproduce this here.

Hmm, I cannot reproduce crossed out text, but the following sentence, for example, would be virtually emphasized (visually: crossed out text):

To provide a wider perspective, I will then briefly review the scope and option of translations.{{trans}} Finally, I will focus on ...

The result is that this sentence would indeed not appear in the output, as selected in preferences:
Export > LaTeX > Markers > Virtual Emphasis = delete Text,
except that footnote {{trans}} would appear in the output, despite being marked.

Ah, now I understand the problem. I'll have a look at this.

Hmm, can you provide a sample Ulysses project? If I try this out, all marked text is deleted, including the footnote {{trans}}.

Yes, I made a sample—it is definitely reproducible. I can send a Ulysses project, tex-output, and PDF, with marks indicating which note should not be there. Where should I send it (not sure the blue-tec email addresses are still valid) ?

For the record: I sent a sample project, with laTeX and PDF output, in which the faulted footnotes have been clearly identified.
