Ulysses 2.0: notes ties to specific sentences

    Just started with Ulysses, so this is a dimwitted question! I'm a novelist, and am used to putting stickies right next the the problem sentence, paragraph, etc. Am I wrong that the notes here are just general? Are they tied to words, sentences, etc? I'm not getting it somehow. Thanks so much! I'm wanting to love Ulysses and this is my only confusion!

    Hey Felix,

    I'm hoping I can help answer your question. As far as I know, you cannot directly link text in a document to a specific note. Basically what I do with notes is I'll describe things such as: theme, direction, points of interest, mini-outline, etc. What you can do, however, would be to implement the comments style to a body of text. If I read over something I wrote that just doesn't work, I'll describe my thoughts under the paragraph or body of work and place a comments tag on it.

    Like yourself, I'm new to Ulysses, so please wait for someone else to add in their two cents. Hope this helped.

    aha! I'm just getting used to the style tags, and treating the text I'm working on as something different from a final, printed text, which will not show comments. It does bother me, somehow, to slide "too many metaphors" in between sentences with just a comments tag to differentiate it from dialogue, but I'll try it out. Still missing stickies. Thanks!

    Hi Felix,

    there's no such thing as linked notes in Ulysses. However, Tyler's suggestion is just what I would've suggested, so I'll leave it at that for the time being. It may help, though, to color the "notes" style slightly lighter or such, so that you can develop a habit of "overreading" these text passages.

    I see what you're saying, but it'll also draw attention to the matter. It'll take some getting use to. There will always be something that just isn't right...

    I won't start bitching till I win an Oscar or Nebula, though ;)

    While not the same, you can create a virtual emphasis marker—and select certain preferences for it, like highlighting in yellow (either the background or the font). In export, these things don't turn up unless you make them to.

    Yes that is basically how I think it is supposed to work. You would then of course choose to delete these comments when you export...

    Something that recently made this a lot more efficient (v. 2) was the addition of bookmarks. In case you haven't already noticed this, just click on the small bookmark icon in the upper right hand corner of the editor window and you'll see. :-) A quite handy feature for other purposes as well.

    Edit: Wow, I saw that a number of other persons have already answered while I was writing my post. I write too slowly...
