Daedalus Touch is the first truly next-generation text editor for
iPad. It has no files, no file lists, no documents in the classic sense. It’s
completely gesture-based and offers a familiarly analog approach to creating
and managing your writings:
the paper stack.
Have a look – it’s magic. Just like your
iPad.
The paper stack · Daedalus touch makes way with
file lists of old. The single metaphor is this: The infinite paper stack. Each
stack may contain an unlimited amount of sheets, and each sheet can be filled
with as much or little text as you like. Reached the end of a stack? Just swipe
to create a new sheet. Yeah, it’s that simple.
All-out Gestures · Daedalus is fully gesture-based.
Pinch to zoom from the editor to sheet overview. Pinch again to zoom to stack
overview. Double-tap to zoom in, swipe to select previous/next stacks or sheets.
It’s all very intuitive, awfully natural and beautifully animated. We even
let you tap editor margins to move the insertion point.
Modeless search · Daedalus touch features an
app-wide, always-on search bar. Matches are displayed live across all views and
stay visible as long as there’s a search term entered. Sheets remain editable,
navigation remains intact. It’s just how it should be, really. That’s
why we search titles and body text. Of course.
Take it to the cloud · In Daedalus, you can sync
select stacks to Dropbox and/or MobileMe (iDisk). It lets you choose services on a
per-stack basis and offers basic conflict control. You can also import remote
files and folders, and even export everything to the service of your choice.
And yes, iCloud backup is fully supported.
The web built right in · Need to look up words on
dict.cc? Need to check Wikipedia? Google something? Do so right from within
Daedalus’ editor. You could even update your blog or keep up with your
favorite news sources. It’s built for speed, ease-of-use and minimal incentive
to procrastinate... we know how it is.
ePub to iBooks · What if… your iPad text editor
could export your work directly as ePub – and into iBooks? Neatly structured into
chapters and sections, with optional author information and even cover images. All
beautifully formatted, even supporting
Markdown
styles, if you so wish. Would you love this? We bet you would. And you will.
Still not convinced? Need more info? Looking for yet another killer feature?
- Beautiful Fonts · Daedalus Touch ships with three
hand-picked font-sets: Classic (Helvetica Bold & Goudy Bookletter), Modern (Ubuntu
Bold & Regular) and Mono (Inconsolata).
- Color Schemes · Switch text and sheet colors to
suit your preference or current environment. Choose light grey or slightly sepia for
day work, then select white-on-black or console style colors for the night.
- Manual Sorting · Sounds trivial, seems unique. Daedalus Touch might
very well be the *only* editor on iPad that allows for manual sorting of your
texts.
- Expert Export · Write in Daedalus, beef up in Pages?
Sure. Email, printing, “open in…”, TXT, PDF, ePub, attachments,
single file, multiple files, zipped or not – it’s all there.
- Markdown · Supported: File extensions, style conversions. Unsupported:
The New York Yankees.
- BEST IN CLASS KEYBOARD ROW · Quick access to
otherwise hard to reach special characters. *Intelligent insertion*, [content wrapping],
tabs, fwd delete, fully customizable. {/|\}™
- Text Mass · 20.000 words? No problem. Daedalus can handle large texts
with relative ease, keeping edits, selections etc. fluid and responsive.
- Internationalization · Daedalus Touch is localized into seven
different languages: English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch and Japanese.
- TextExpander touch · Type faster (and add otherwise hard to reach
symbols) with TextExpander touch from SmileOnMyMac.
- A bright future · Daedalus Touch is being actively developed. By nice
people. True story. :)
